As an entrepreneur, you have to make decisions day by day, and the destiny of your business and also of your employees depends on your decisions. But there is a question, how could anybody make good decisions without a goal? That’s why it’s important to define a clear vision. If you have one you can make your decisions which serves your vision.
What is a business vision? Well, a business visions stands somewhere between a goal and a dream. You can define your business vision by answering the following question: Where do you see your business in five years? The term can differ of course, but it’s important to be well defined and to not be too short. When answering to this question make sure that it has to be scary and achievable at the same time. A vision can contain pure financial data, but can also contain any other parts as well, like “after five years I would like to own three Italian restaurants in Budapest which offers only natural foods”, “till December I would like to have minimum three hundreds orders per day” or “within two years I would like to replace all my menu with unique vegetarian food which can be ordered just and only in our restaurant”.
After you successfully defined your vision, you will have to make your decisions based on it, because you have to fight to make it real.
A good vision will inspire and motivate you and (in a good scenario) your employees as well. It may sound interesting that your vision can motivate your employees, but if you will share your vision with them, then they will better understand your decisions and they will also be involved in the process. Everybody can work happier in a job if they are part of something, if they are involved in a plan and if they understand that things strongly depend on them as well. Once you are sure that you successfully defined you vision, involve your employees as well.
Also, don’t forget, that your employees are not machines, they have something very important which is named: creativity. Good companies are able to use their employee’ creativity, be one of them. Ask your employee’ opinion, maybe they will share something valuable with you, which you didn’t think about and may help to reach your goals. By doing so you can benefit from their ideas and you will also ensure that your employees will feel as a valuable member of a team which fights for the same goal.
You should not be a boss, you have to be a leader. People are following leaders, and this is what you need. Having motivated employees is essential for a restaurant or pub. Nobody would like to eat in a restaurant where the waiter is frustrated and unhappy. Your customers would like to enjoy being in your restaurant or pub, hence having a happy atmosphere is more then required for you.
We hope that you enjoyed the 3rd step, see you in the next one.
